"There is definitely a shortage of series and films with lesbian themes when compared to the sheer amount of material that had been produced for television and theaters in the past 60 or so years. Yet it has come as a pleasant surprise that in the decade starting in 2000, there has been a rise of lesbian themes in both show and film. This is a world wide phenomena  and quite a number of works have come out of Europe and the Latin world.
